SCHENECTADY, NY– Schenectady Police Department Youth Aid Detectives arrested a 12-year-old juvenile on a charge of making a terroristic threat.
At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Monday, officers were informed of a school threat posted on Snapchat. The FBI alerted the Schenectady Police Department about the post, which stated, “I’m shooting the school tmr.”
Detectives traced the threat to a location in Schenectady’s Mont Pleasant neighborhood. On scene, officers contacted the juvenile and his cooperative parent.
The juvenile was detained, and his parent voluntarily surrendered a shotgun that was not in the juvenile’s possession. The juvenile was transported to the Schenectady Police Department Headquarters and charged with making a terroristic threat, a D felony.
Communication between the police department and the school district has been ongoing. No further threat to safety has been identified at this time.
Due to the suspect’s age, the police have not released his identity or any additional identifying information.
