WASHINGTON, D.C. — A teenager has been arrested after making threats directed at multiple schools in the District via social media.
On Thursday evening, at approximately 8:00 p.m., authorities were alerted to an Instagram post that featured images of weapons alongside a list of D.C. schools. As a precautionary measure, a heightened police presence was implemented at schools across the city.
By Friday morning, following an investigation, a 15-year-old male from Brandywine, Maryland, was charged with making threats to kidnap or injure a person. According to investigators, the teen had found the image online and recirculated it with modified text targeting District schools. It was confirmed that the teen did not possess any firearms.
Authorities emphasized the seriousness with which they regard threats to schools and urged the community to report any suspicious activity. Emergency threats can be reported to 911, and anonymous tips can be sent via text to 50411.
