MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Authorities are investigating the drowning death of a four-year-old child in a pond near the family’s home, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Monroe Township Police Chief Griffin M. Banos announced Monday.
The incident occurred on August 27, 2024, at approximately 6:48 p.m., when the Monroe Township Police Department received a 911 call reporting that the child was missing. Upon arrival, police and emergency responders began searching for the child, who was found unresponsive in a pond located about 50 yards from the back deck of the family’s residence.
CPR was performed on the child, and they were transported to Princeton Medical Center, where they were later pronounced deceased.
The incident is being investigated by Detective Steven Menhart of the Monroe Township Police Department and Detective Stephanie Redline of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Prosecutor Ciccone and Chief Banos expressed their condolences in a joint statement, saying, “Our hearts are heavy with sorrow as we mourn this tragic loss. We extend our deepest condolences to the family during this incredibly difficult time.”
