WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — A Brooklyn man was sentenced to two to six years in state prison for a fatal hit-and-run in Hartsdale that claimed the life of a 65-year-old pedestrian, Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced Monday.
The defendant, Antonio Robles Sanchez, 43, was driving under the influence of Xanax when he struck and killed Stephanie Kavourias at the intersection of Rockledge Road and East Hartsdale Avenue on Aug. 26. Kavourias, a longtime Greenburgh resident, was walking on a sidewalk when she was hit.
Sanchez pleaded guilty in August to multiple charges, including vehicular manslaughter in the second degree and leaving the scene of an incident without reporting, both felonies, as well as criminally negligent homicide. He was also convicted of driving while impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor.
“The victim was a beloved figure in the Greenburgh community, and her life was senselessly taken when the defendant chose to get behind the wheel of his car and drive while impaired,” Rocah said in a statement. “We hope this prosecution and sentence helps Ms. Kavourias’s loved ones begin the process of healing from this tragedy.”
The Greenburgh Police Department, aided by White Plains Public Safety, apprehended Sanchez after finding his license plate at the scene. Officers located him asleep behind the wheel of his truck in traffic in White Plains shortly after the crash.
