LIGONIER, Pa. – The body of Amy Shipley, 45, was found buried in a makeshift grave in Cook Township after an investigation into her disappearance, authorities said Thursday. Shipley, last heard from by relatives on September 8, 2024, was reported missing on September 13. The investigation, led by the Westmoreland County Detective Bureau and Ligonier Valley Police, led officers to a property on Helens Lane.
Robert Angelo, Shipley’s boyfriend, who had been living with her at the time of her disappearance, was a primary suspect. Authorities believe Shipley died in her home on September 8 and was buried shortly after on the Helens Lane property, which Angelo frequented.
The FBI Pittsburgh Evidence Response Team assisted local detectives in recovering Shipley’s body. Angelo was expected to face criminal charges but was found dead in his Ligonier home from self-inflicted wounds in the early morning of September 19, 2024.
Shipley’s autopsy was performed on September 18, and the cause of death remains under review pending toxicology results.
