TOMS RIVER, N.J. — Two people sustained minor injuries in a crash Monday morning at the intersection of Church Road and North Bay Avenue, where traffic signals were not functioning due to a power outage, according to Toms River police.
Thousands of homes were without power during the outage, which is the latest in a long line of outages plaguing the town in recent months, leading local leaders to urge First Energy Corp to improve service in recent months.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m., when a vehicle traveling south on North Bay Avenue collided with a vehicle headed east on Church Road, said Lt. Scott Moeller.
The impact caused the large truck on Church Road to overturn.
Both drivers reported minor injuries, with one being transported to a hospital for treatment, Moeller said.
The traffic signal at the intersection was not operational at the time of the crash due to a power outage in the area. Jersey Central Power & Light spokesman Christopher Hoenig said a malfunctioning breaker caused the outage.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
