COLUMBUS, Ohio — A suspect has been arrested following a shooting that occurred on Ohio State University’s Columbus campus Monday night, according to authorities.
The incident took place at approximately 8:30 p.m. on the John Herrick Bridge, when an individual, unaffiliated with Ohio State, flagged down a bus and reported that he had been shot.
The victim, who is an unhoused individual, told the bus driver he needed immediate medical attention. Emergency personnel and police responded to the scene and secured the area.
The victim was transported to a hospital in stable condition. He informed police that he was shot by another unhoused individual, with whom he had prior altercations.
The suspect, identified as Richard James Patridge, was already known to police and was wanted in connection with this incident, as well as a separate abduction case from September 3 on the 2000 block of E. Main Street in Columbus.
Ohio State University Police Department (OSUPD) is leading the investigation into the crime. “Thank you to everyone who provided tips and information that led to his arrest,” authorities said.
