NEWARK, N.J. — Traffic along several New Jersey highways experienced disruptions Monday due to incidents and routine congestion, with notable delays in multiple areas.
A watermain break on NJ 79 southbound, south of NJ 33 Business in Freehold Township, caused all lanes to shift. Motorists were advised to use caution in the area, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT). As of 8:29 a.m., the lane shifts remained in effect.
Another watermain break affected US 40 westbound near Doughty Road in Pleasantville. The right lane and shoulder were closed, causing delays of 5 to 10 minutes. Drivers were urged to proceed with caution, especially during the morning commute.
Popular travel routes showed a range of travel times. For example, the drive from the Raritan Toll Plaza to Exit 117, Sandy Hook, via the local lanes took about 8 minutes, while the trip from Raritan to Exit 98, Belmar, via the express lanes took 26 minutes. For those traveling to Exit 63, Long Beach Island, travel times were around 58 to 59 minutes via local and express lanes, respectively.
Longer trips, such as from the Raritan Toll Plaza to Exit 38, Atlantic City, saw driving times of about 1 hour and 22 minutes through both the express and local lanes. Those heading further south to Wildwood (Exit 4) could expect travel times of 1 hour and 55 minutes.
HeNJDOT continues to monitor traffic flow, with real-time updates available through the 511NJ system. Motorists are encouraged to check for any additional incidents or changes in road conditions.
