NEWARK, N.J. — The Newark Department of Public Safety is requesting the public’s help in locating a 19-year-old man from Greenbrook, N.J., who is wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting that took place last month in Newark’s West Ward.
Troy Dacruz is being sought by detectives investigating the August 17, 2024, shooting, which occurred in the 200-300 blocks of 18th Avenue. According to a statement released by the department, officers responded to a report of shots fired at approximately 9:44 p.m. Upon arrival, officers recovered ballistic evidence from the scene. However, no victims or property damage were reported.
Dacruz, described as Hispanic, 6 feet 5 inches tall, and weighing approximately 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, is not considered a suspect at this time but is wanted for questioning. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have yet to disclose details on any potential suspects or motives behind the shooting.
Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé is urging anyone with information on Dacruz’s whereabouts to come forward. “We are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Mr. Dacruz as we continue our investigation,” Fragé said in the statement posted on social media.
Officials are encouraging those with information to contact the Newark Police Division’s Crime Stoppers line or their local authorities. No further information about the case has been released, but police are continuing to actively investigate the incident.
