NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying two individuals connected to a shooting that occurred on August 23, 2024, in the city’s southeast community.
According to a statement released by the Newport News Police Department, officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert near the 2400 block of Oak Avenue at around 4 p.m. Upon arrival, police began an investigation into the incident, which appears to have occurred when an SUV stopped near the 1300 block of 24th Street.
Authorities say two men were standing outside when the driver of the SUV exited the vehicle. One of the individuals, described as a Black male wearing a grey hoodie, white pants, a grey backpack, and a black hat, reportedly raised a gun and fired at the driver.

Tipsters can remain anonymous, will not have to testify in court, and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. The investigation remains ongoing.
