NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Dr. Jonathan H. Sherman, a specialist in neurosurgical oncology, has been named chief of Neurosurgical Oncology at Rutgers Cancer Institute, officials announced on Wednesday. Dr. Sherman will also serve as a professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) and join the medical staff at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH), an RWJBarnabas Health facility.
Dr. Sherman, an expert in the treatment of brain and spinal tumors, brings years of experience in clinical care and research. “We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Sherman to Rutgers Cancer Institute and RWJBarnabas Health,” said Dr. Steven K. Libutti, director of Rutgers Cancer Institute and senior vice president of oncology services at RWJBarnabas Health. “He brings new help and hope for patients fighting these complex diagnoses.”
In addition to treating patients, Dr. Sherman will spearhead efforts to expand clinical trials and research initiatives in New Jersey. “I look forward to working together to discover innovative ways to improve patient outcomes through clinical research,” said Dr. Sherman.
Dr. Sherman previously served as director of Neurosurgical Oncology at West Virginia University and has published over 130 peer-reviewed manuscripts. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
