JACKSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Jackson Memorial relied on a late surge to defeat North Brunswick 17-7 in their season opener on Friday, powered by a standout rushing performance from running back Jonah Glenn.
Glenn carried the ball 22 times for 201 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter that sealed the victory for Jackson Memorial. The Lions also benefited from a 36-yard field goal by Joe Muzzilli earlier in the fourth quarter, breaking a 7-7 tie.
Jackson Memorial took the lead in the second quarter on a 2-yard touchdown run, but North Brunswick responded quickly. Quarterback Al Trevelise connected with Lennon Travelise for a 24-yard touchdown pass, tying the game at halftime.
Both defenses held firm in the third quarter, but Jackson Memorial found momentum in the final period. In addition to Glenn’s dominant rushing, Jackson Memorial’s defense, led by Jio Kabiri’s seven tackles and Aidan Chornobroff’s sack, held North Brunswick scoreless after the break.
North Brunswick struggled to gain traction offensively, managing only 23 rushing yards on 16 attempts. Trevelise finished with 45 passing yards and one touchdown, completing 6 of 8 attempts.
Jackson Memorial, now 1-0, begins the season with a hard-fought victory, while North Brunswick falls to 0-1.
