GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. — As the 2024-2025 school year begins, the Gloucester Township Police Department has issued a traffic safety advisory, urging drivers to exercise caution as students return to school. With most schools in the area reopening this week, police are asking motorists to remain vigilant, particularly in neighborhoods and near bus stops.
Drivers are advised to reduce speed and be especially cautious where there are no sidewalks, as children may be walking in the street. The department also reminded drivers that children waiting at bus stops or playing near the road may not always be aware of oncoming traffic.
The advisory highlights the importance of obeying school bus signals. When a bus has its red flashing lights on and the stop-arm extended, drivers must come to a complete stop at a safe distance. Vehicles should not proceed until the bus signals are deactivated and the bus begins moving again.
Police are stressing the importance of these precautions to ensure the safety of children as they travel to and from school.
