DUNDALK, Md. — A Baltimore County woman experienced a sleepless night after discovering she had won $50,000 in the Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game. The Dundalk resident, who has been playing the same five-digit number for years, checked her ticket before bed on Aug. 26 and realized her numbers had matched the evening drawing.
“It kept me up all night. I couldn’t go to sleep,” said the winner, who goes by the nickname “Blue” to maintain her anonymity. The federal worker revealed that her winning numbers were based on a relative’s birthday and that she has been using variations of these numbers for years in different lottery games.
“Blue” placed her $1 straight bet at Village Family Mart in Dundalk, where she has been a regular customer. “I have played this number for 17 years,” she said, noting that persistence finally paid off with her substantial win.
Accompanied by a friend, “Blue” celebrated her victory in the Maryland Lottery Winner’s Circle. She plans to use the prize money to pay bills and possibly tackle a home improvement project.
Village Family Mart, located at 12 North Dundalk Avenue, will also benefit from the win, receiving a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the $50,000-winning ticket.
