Philadelphia, PA – Alright, Philly fans, we get it—y’all have been known to make some questionable calls (like, say, loving a team that keeps us all on the edge of our seats).
But even the Eagles want to set the record straight: they’re not in the business of endorsing politicians, even if they do look snazzy in a midnight green helmet.
Recently, eagle-eyed citizens noticed some peculiar bus stop ads around University City. Plastered with Kamala Harris’s face under an Eagles helmet, the signs proudly declared her as the “official candidate of the Philadelphia Eagles.” The ads even came complete with the team’s logo and a link to a legit voter information site, PhiladelphiaEagles.com/vote. Pretty official-looking, right?
Except, it’s all fake. Yep, someone took their Photoshop skills a little too far, and the Eagles were quick to shut it down.
In a statement that probably made more sense than some of their play calls last season, the team said, “We are aware counterfeit political ads are being circulated and are working with our advertising partner to have them removed.” Translation? They’re not about to fumble their brand by diving into political endorsements—especially ones they didn’t sign up for.
Sure, it’s tempting to think that the Eagles might want to play politics like they play football, but let’s leave the game-day strategies to the field. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just here for the cheesesteaks, remember that not everything with a logo slapped on it is legit—especially when it’s got a side of politics.
The plot thickened today as Laura Loomer said a Philadelphia Eagles marketing exec was on Twitter bashing people who complained about the ads and covered them up.
