AKRON, Ohio — Akron police arrested ten individuals and seized multiple weapons on Sunday morning after responding to reports of juveniles making threats and allegedly planning a possible shooting. The incident unfolded around 11:05 a.m. in the 700 block of S. Arlington Street.
Patrol officers, along with members of the Anti-Violence Bureau, quickly converged on the area. Following descriptions provided by witnesses, officers located a group of teens near a residence in the 1300 block of Minson Way. As officers approached, two males attempted to flee but were apprehended shortly afterward.
One of the fleeing teens, a 17-year-old male, was observed discarding a firearm, which was recovered by police. An 18-year-old male was found with an AR-style pistol concealed in a backpack. Both were charged with Carrying Concealed Weapons, Obstructing Official Business, and other related offenses.
In addition, a 21-year-old male involved in the incident was arrested and charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Obstructing Official Business.
Seven other males, ranging in age from 15 to 22, were also arrested and charged with Obstructing Official Business. They were taken to either the Juvenile Detention Facility or the Summit County Jail. Authorities indicated that additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
In total, police recovered three handguns, an AR-style pistol, and an Airsoft AR-BB gun during the operation. The Akron Police Department has not released the names of the juveniles involved due to their age.
