UTICA, N.Y. — The Utica Police Department has announced temporary traffic and parking changes in anticipation of the 2024 Party in FT Proctor Park and Fireworks Event, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 31. The event, initially planned for July 4, was rescheduled and is expected to draw large crowds.
Road closures and detours will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, with the fireworks display set to start at 8:30 p.m. and last for approximately 30 minutes. The event will conclude once the fireworks end, but road restrictions will remain in place until around 10:00 p.m. as crowds disperse.
Parking on several streets near the event site will be limited, with specific restrictions in place to ensure emergency vehicle access. Streets affected include Girard Street, South Street, Gardner Street, and Guelich Street, where parking will be restricted to the north side. Similar measures will apply to sections of Lansing Street and Ontario Street. Additional no-parking zones will be enforced on streets such as Blandina Street, Osborne Street, and portions of Rutger Street.
Traffic posts and barricades will be established at key intersections to manage the flow of vehicles, with local traffic only permitted on some roads. VIP, vendor, and handicap parking will be available in designated grassy lots near Ludlow Avenue and Rutger Street, accessible via passes or handicap placards.
The city has arranged for free shuttle service from Mohawk Valley Community College to Proctor Park starting at 4:00 p.m. to assist with transportation. The Utica Police Department has asked residents for their cooperation to ensure a safe and enjoyable event.
For further information, residents are encouraged to contact Utica Police Capt. James Holt Jr. at 315-223-3460.
