ROCKVILLE, Md. — The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has identified the victims involved in a fatal shooting and subsequent suicide that occurred in Rockville on Thursday.
Officers were dispatched to the 14900 block of Southlawn Lane shortly before 8 a.m. on August 29, responding to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered 60-year-old Civil Jean Calixte suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Calixte was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
As the investigation unfolded, police issued a lookout for a Toyota Tacoma in connection with the shooting. A short time later, an officer spotted the vehicle near the intersection of Avery and Norbeck Roads. During a traffic stop, officers heard a gunshot from inside the vehicle. Upon approaching the truck, they found 53-year-old Dario Villard with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Villard was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators recovered a firearm from the vehicle and learned that Villard had an active warrant for attempted first-degree murder issued by the Laurel Police Department on August 28. Further inquiries revealed that Villard’s truck was linked to a domestic-related shooting that occurred in Laurel on Wednesday night.
Both Calixte and Villard were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where autopsies were scheduled for Friday.
MCPD is treating this case as a murder-suicide, with Villard’s death being investigated as a suicide.
