ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. — The Anne Arundel County Police Department announced the retirement of Crossing Guard Carol Van Pelt, who has dedicated 33 years to ensuring the safety of schoolchildren in the community. Van Pelt, who has also trained many of the county’s current crossing guards, has been a familiar and trusted figure at local crosswalks for over three decades.
The department shared the news of Van Pelt’s retirement on social media, expressing gratitude for her long-standing commitment to the community. “She has been a staple in the community by ensuring the safety of many children and even some of their parents through the years,” the Anne Arundel County Police Department said in the statement.
Van Pelt was celebrated in a photograph alongside Lieutenant Johnson and Crossing Guard Program Manager Mrs. Thelma Swigert, who joined in honoring her years of service.
The department extended their best wishes to Van Pelt as she embarks on her retirement, acknowledging her significant contributions to the safety and well-being of countless families over the years.
