UTICA, N.Y. — On August 25, 2024, at approximately 4:50 a.m., Utica Police responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a store located on the 900 block of Eagle Street. The store owner, who had been alerted by the store’s alarm system, was monitoring the suspect via surveillance cameras inside the store.
Upon arrival, officers quickly secured the perimeter and identified the point of entry. Inside the store, they found the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Moises Cruz, hiding between pieces of furniture. Cruz, who has no known address, was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Utica Police Department.
A walkthrough of the store conducted by the officers and the store owner revealed significant damage to the cash register, printer system, and the door where entry was made.
Given the circumstances, an investigator from the Criminal Investigations Division was called in to further handle the case.
Cruz has been charged with multiple offenses, including Burglary in the Third Degree, Petit Larceny, and Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree. The investigation remains ongoing.
