WILDWOOD, N.J. — As summer draws to a close, fishing enthusiasts are flocking to the Wildwoods for a series of surf fishing competitions this September. The five-mile beach, known for its picturesque views and abundant fishing spots, remains a popular destination for anglers throughout the year.
The Wildwoods offer a variety of locations for surf fishing, including the back bay, docks, and street ends, as well as the beaches along Hereford Inlet in North Wildwood. This September, two major competitions will bring together both seasoned and amateur anglers for a chance to cast their lines and compete.
The North Wildwood Recreation Department Surf Fishing Competition will take place from September 6 to 8. Registration for the event will be held at the Gazebo at 3rd and JFK Blvd. in North Wildwood, with a $15 participation fee. The tournament runs from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday. Prizes will be awarded at noon on Sunday for both adult and youth divisions. Additional details can be found at www.NorthWildwood.com or by calling 609-522-2955.
Later in the month, the Pennsauken Surf Fishing Club will host its 69th Annual Surf Fishing Tournament on Saturday, September 28. The competition is open to both teams and individuals, with a $75 fee for teams and a $20 fee for individual participants. For more information, interested participants can contact Pam Thompson at pamela.thompson74@gmail.com or visit www.ASAConline.org.
As the summer crowds dissipate, these events offer a perfect opportunity for a weekend getaway or a day trip to experience why the Wildwoods continue to be a top destination for surf fishing.
