MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A man has been arrested in connection with a 2022 missing person and murder case after the victim’s remains were discovered buried in the backyard of an Orangeburg, South Carolina, residence earlier this year.
On Thursday, August 29, 2024, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Myrtle Beach Police served an arrest warrant in the 1800 block of Broughton Street in Orangeburg. Sheridan Dirk Fogle, 54, was taken into custody and charged with murder.
The case dates back to May 11, 2022, when a missing persons report was filed concerning a woman who had been living with Fogle at a residence on 1st Avenue South in Myrtle Beach. Initial investigations at the time did not yield conclusive results.
However, the investigation gained new momentum in 2024 when neighbors of the suspect reported suspicious activity around the property. Based on these statements, authorities obtained a search warrant for the residence on June 12, 2024. During the search, the victim’s remains were found buried under a firepit in the backyard. The remains were subsequently identified as those of the missing woman.
Fogle is currently being held in connection with the murder and is awaiting further legal proceedings. Myrtle Beach Police continue to investigate the case, which has brought renewed attention to the circumstances surrounding the victim’s disappearance and death.
