ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. — Hillsboro Lane has been closed in both directions following an incident involving an overturned truck, the Albemarle County Police Department announced Monday afternoon. The closure affects the stretch of road between Rockfish Gap Turnpike and Yancey Mill Lane.
Authorities are advising motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while emergency crews work to clear the scene. There have been no reports yet of injuries or the cause of the accident.
The police department has not provided an estimate for when the road will reopen. Updates are expected as the situation develops.
Detectives say the family had gathered at the Wyoming Avenue home to discuss the future of the property following the recent passing of Theresa DeLucia, Joseph’s mother, who died of natural causes on August 19. The family had laid her to rest on Friday, and on Sunday, they were scheduled to meet with a real estate agent to decide what to do with the house where she and Joseph lived.
According to Detective Captain Fitzpatrick of the Nassau County Homicide Squad, several family members had gathered in the den with coffee from Starbucks as they prepared for the meeting. Joseph Delucia remained behind, retrieved a 12-gauge shotgun, and fatally shot his siblings and niece before turning the weapon on himself.
The victims have been identified as Joanne Kearns, 69, of Tampa, Florida; Frank Delucia, 64, of Durham, North Carolina; Tina Hammond, 64, of East Patchogue, New York; and Victoria Hammond, 30, also of East Patchogue. Joanne, Frank, and Tina were Joseph’s siblings, and Victoria was his niece.
