BALTIMORE, Md. — A Maryland mother and her boyfriend have been arrested and charged with the death of her 6-year-old son after allegedly beating him for taking money from her wallet, according to Baltimore Police.
Officers responded to a home on the 6300 block of Greenspring Avenue at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday following reports of an unresponsive child. The victim, identified as Brian Graham, was rushed to a hospital by paramedics, but he was later pronounced dead. The medical examiner determined that the cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Baltimore Police arrested Brian’s mother, Jalesia Offer, and her boyfriend, Brandon Wheatley, both 34 years old, in connection with the child’s death. They have been charged with child abuse resulting in death and assault.
According to charging documents obtained by local NBC affiliate WBAL and ABC affiliate WMAR, the abuse began earlier in the week after Brian allegedly took money from his mother’s wallet. The details of the beating, as outlined in the documents, paint a disturbing picture of the events leading to the child’s death.
Offer and Wheatley are currently being held without bond. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not provided further information at this time.
