GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A 28-year-old lawn mower operator died Tuesday afternoon following a collision with a car on Great Seneca Highway. The incident occurred at approximately 1:13 p.m. near the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and High Gables Drive, according to Montgomery County Police.
Responding officers from the 6th District, along with Gaithersburg Police and Fire Rescue personnel, found the victim, identified as Juan Guerrero-Moreno of Silver Spring, unresponsive in the roadway. Despite life-saving efforts at the scene, Guerrero-Moreno was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries and was later pronounced dead.
Preliminary findings by detectives indicate that the driver of a black 2021 Genesis G70 was traveling northbound on Great Seneca Highway when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle struck Guerrero-Moreno as he was operating a zero-turn riding mower. Guerrero-Moreno was attempting to cross the northbound lanes from east to west at the time of the collision. The driver of the Genesis remained at the scene.
The Montgomery County Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident. Authorities are requesting that anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has additional information contact CRU detectives at (240) 773-6620.
