TOMS RIVER, NJ — A young child was found unresponsive in a Toms River swimming pool on Wednesday.
First responder’s efforts to save the child, including CPR, were unsuccessful. Minutes after receiving the 911 call, Fire Chef Travis Veth, a trained EMT, was the first to arrive on the scene. Reports indicate Veth was on the scene within 30 seconds of receiving the call.
Paramedics arrived on scene minutes later, but their CPR efforts were unsuccessful as the boy was pronounced dead upon arrival at Community Medical Center.
As the child was being transported to the hospital, Toms River police shut down intersections along Route 37 between Fischer Boulevard and the hospital to facilitate the rapid emergency response.
