FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A report of “shots fired” at the AMC movie theater on Trotters Way late Tuesday night led to a significant police response. Still, authorities have since determined that fireworks, not gunfire caused the noise.
Freehold Township Police were dispatched to the theater at 11:26 p.m. after receiving reports of possible gunshots. Upon arrival, officers conducted a thorough investigation, reviewing video footage and interviewing witnesses.
“Based on video evidence and eyewitness accounts, it was determined that the noise was due to fireworks set off in the rear of the movie theater,” the Freehold Township Police Department said in a statement.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. The police have not released any information on possible suspects or further actions related to the fireworks.
