QUEENS, N.Y. — A 55-year-old woman was fatally struck with a broom during a dispute in Queens on Tuesday morning, leading to the arrest of a 29-year-old man, according to police. The incident occurred at approximately 10:31 a.m. near the intersection of 164th Street and 108th Avenue in the Jamaica neighborhood, within the confines of the 103rd Precinct.
Officers responding to a 911 call arrived to find that the altercation began as a verbal dispute between the victim, identified as Juanita Dallas, and Alexander Fleming. During the confrontation, Fleming allegedly grabbed a broom and struck Dallas in the head. Emergency Medical Services transported Dallas to North Shore University Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Fleming was arrested later that evening at 9:26 p.m. He faces multiple charges, including second-degree murder, assault with intent to cause physical injury with a weapon, and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, authorities confirmed.
The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to gather information surrounding the events leading up to the fatal assault.
