MOUNT OLIVE, N.J. — Joseph Guzman, 44, of Mount Olive, has been sentenced to three years in New Jersey State Prison for endangering the welfare of a child, following a November 2022 arrest. The sentencing was announced by Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Deputy Chief of Detectives Jan-Michael Monrad, and Mount Olive Police Department Chief Michael Spitzer.
Guzman pled guilty on October 27, 2023, to one count of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. On August 16, 2024, the Honorable Claudia Jones, J.S.C., imposed the prison sentence. In addition to the prison term, Guzman will be required to register under Megan’s Law and will be subject to Parole Supervision for Life. He is also prohibited from having any contact with the victim or the victim’s family.
Guzman’s conviction stems from an investigation by the Mount Olive Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation revealed that on August 10, 2022, Guzman, who was the victim’s employer and supervisor at Joseph Vincent’s Salon in Mount Olive, sexually assaulted a 16-year-old female employee.
Prosecutor Carroll expressed gratitude to the Mount Olive Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit for their efforts in securing the conviction and ensuring justice for the victim.
