LAKEWOOD, N.J. — Two men were arrested in separate incidents on Monday, following investigations by local law enforcement, with both cases involving charges of child endangerment.
Patrolman Daniel Grothues apprehended Bassem Benhaiem, 46, of Lakewood, after responding to a suspicious incident at 2433 State Highway 34. Benhaiem has been charged with lewdness and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police did not reveal any further information regarding this incident.
He was processed by authorities and subsequently transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution.
In a separate incident, Patrolman Alfredo Flores arrested Kyle Somers, 29, of Wall Township, after a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of New Bedford Road and Belmar Boulevard. Somers faces multiple charges, including endangering the welfare of a child, possession of a toxic chemical (identified as “tianeptine”) for the purpose of intoxication, driving while intoxicated, and driving while intoxicated with a minor in the vehicle.
Somers was admitted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash, as well as for the suspected use of tianeptine, according to police.
Both incidents are under ongoing investigation by local authorities.
