ABINGDON, Md. — A Harford County man has won a $50,000 prize on the Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game after using a random set of numbers he saw on a piece of paper.
The man, a loyal lottery player since 1976, explained that the winning numbers—99456—caught his attention after he saw them on a sheet of paper he received at work. Although he couldn’t recall the significance of the numbers or why they stood out, he made a mental note. Later, when he saw the same numbers on a license plate, he decided it was a sign to purchase a Pick 5 ticket.
“Something told me to try those numbers,” the factory worker said. His decision paid off when the numbers were drawn in the Aug. 12 evening drawing.
The man described his reaction to the win as overwhelming. “I never won everything before. I just fell to my knees and cried,” he said. The longtime lottery player plans to use his winnings to pay off bills.
The winning ticket was purchased at Wine World, located at 406 Constant Friendship Boulevard in Abingdon. The store will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket. The Harford County man considers himself fortunate, noting that he does not play his numbers every day and was lucky to have played them at just the right time.
