STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., — A 36-year-old woman was found dead with multiple stab wounds in Staten Island on Tuesday, leading authorities to open a homicide investigation, according to police.
Officers from the NYPD’s 121st Precinct responded to a 911 call at approximately 12:24 p.m. on August 13. The call directed them to the area near Amador Street and Amity Place, where they discovered Priscilla Scarpati, a resident of 752 Katan Avenue, unconscious and unresponsive with multiple stab wounds.
James Guidone, 3, was also found at the scene, though police reported that he showed no visible signs of trauma. Emergency Medical Services pronounced both individuals dead at the scene.
According to reports, the two were a live-in couple, plagued with strife and turmoil in their relationship. A relative of the deceased male noted that he had been suffering from stress after the death of his father and grappled with substance abuse.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is conducting autopsies to determine the exact causes of death.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
