LOWER TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Naval Air Station Wildwood (NASW) Aviation Museum is set to host AirFest 2024, a four-day event from August 29 through September 1, featuring a showcase of historic aircraft and military flyovers at Cape May Airport.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and offers an array of activities for families, aviation enthusiasts, and history buffs.
This year’s AirFest will highlight several notable aircraft, including the Supermarine Spitfire MK IXE, the P-51D Mustang “Double Trouble Two,” the SNJ Advanced Trainer, and the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation’s C-54 “Spirit of Freedom.” These aircraft, many of which played pivotal roles in World War II, will be on display, offering attendees a chance to experience a piece of aviation history.
On August 30, the 177th Fighter Wing will conduct a flyover featuring four F-16 fighter jets. The following day, the Aero Club of Pennsylvania and local chapters of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) will participate in a fly-in of historic aircraft. Additional activities throughout the event will include opportunities to meet pilots and crew members from various military branches, as well as tours of helicopters and displays by the New Jersey State Police and other agencies.
AirFest 2024 will also feature live performances, food trucks, and a variety of vendors and exhibitors. Admission to the event is $18 for adults and $14 for children aged 3-12, with free admission for museum members, children under 3, and active-duty military personnel. Proceeds from the event will support the restoration of Hangar #1, the museum’s main exhibit space.
Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum, located inside the historic Hangar #1 at Cape May Airport, is dedicated to preserving the history of the former Naval Air Station Wildwood, which served as a dive-bomber training center during World War II. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
