TRENTON, NJ — A former teacher and basketball coach has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual assault spanning several years, according to Acting Mercer County Prosecutor Theresa L. Hilton and Trenton Police Director Steve Wilson.
Darrell R. Moody, 51, of Plainfield, NJ, was taken into custody in Trenton on Monday. He faces charges including first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, multiple counts of aggravated criminal sexual contact, criminal sexual contact, and endangering the welfare of a child.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion to detain Moody pending trial.
The charges stem from incidents reported in May, when the victim contacted Trenton police, alleging sexual assault that began during middle school and continued through high school.
Moody, who met the victim while teaching fifth grade at Parker Elementary School, allegedly assaulted the victim over several years.
During that time, Moody also served as a basketball coach at Joyce Kilmer Middle School.
In a separate incident, Moody was charged by the South Plainfield Police Department on June 27, 2023, with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree solicitation of a minor for prostitution.
