WILDWOOD, NJ – A golf cart accident at the National Night Out event in Wildwood resulted in injuries to five individuals. The incident occurred on Tuesday night at Fox Park, where the event was hosted.
During an impairment simulation course, a golf cart, carrying a juvenile attendee and a Wildwood police officer, veered off the designated path and collided with four adults and another juvenile.
Three of the injured were treated and subsequently released from the hospital, while two others remain hospitalized. Details regarding the nature of their injuries have not been disclosed.
The golf cart simulation, intended to demonstrate the dangers of impaired driving, has been a feature of Wildwood’s National Night Out for two decades. Following the accident, the Wildwood Police Department expressed their concern and extended their thoughts and prayers to those affected.
“National Night Out is fundamentally about fostering partnerships between the police and the community,” the police statement emphasized. “This tragic incident is particularly disconcerting for everyone involved with the event.”
