SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the indictment of Oliver Schor, 22, and Christopher Fernandez, 28, both residents of Sound Beach, on charges including Murder in the Second Degree for the death of Michael Hartmann, 49, in Bohemia.
The tragic incident, described as a case of mistaken identity by authorities, occurred on November 2, 2022. Hartmann, a family man and local resident, was fatally shot at his home when the accused, armed with rifles, attempted to enter through the back door and encountered him. The defendants then fled the scene in a vehicle belonging to Schor’s mother.
“This case involves the heartbreaking loss of a beloved family man,” stated DA Tierney, extending his condolences to the Hartmann family.
In addition to the charges related to the shooting, Fernandez is also accused of robbing a gas station employee at an Exxon Mobil in Manorville shortly before the murder.
Schor faces multiple charges, including one count of Murder in the First Degree and two counts of Murder in the Second Degree. Fernandez is charged with one count of Murder in the Second Degree among other felony charges. Both were remanded in custody during their arraignment before Supreme Court Justice Steven A. Pilewski on August 9, 2024.
Schor is scheduled to return to court on September 16, 2024, and could face life in prison if convicted. The case continues to unfold as the Suffolk County legal system seeks justice for the untimely death of Michael Hartmann.
