STATE COLLEGE, PA—The National Weather Service in State College, PA has issued a tornado warning effective until 9:00 AM EDT for southeastern Adams County and southwestern York County. The warning follows the detection of a severe thunderstorm with tornado capabilities near Littlestown, moving north at 35 mph.
The storm, noted for radar-indicated rotation, poses significant hazards including potential tornado formation. Flying debris from the tornado could pose a danger to anyone caught outside without proper shelter. Mobile homes may suffer severe damage or destruction, and substantial damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles is likely, along with probable tree damage.
Areas expected to be impacted shortly include Hanover, Parkville, and Littlestown around 8:30 AM EDT, followed by Hampton and New Oxford around 8:40 AM EDT, and East Berlin by 8:50 AM EDT. Abbottstown is also in the path of this dangerous storm.
Residents are urged to take immediate cover, preferably in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows. Those outdoors, in mobile homes, or in vehicles should seek the nearest substantial shelter and protect themselves from potential flying debris.
