TRENTON, NJ – A Wind Advisory is currently in effect until 11 PM EDT this evening for parts of Delaware and coastal New Jersey
The advisory warns of south winds ranging from 15 to 25 mph with gusts reaching up to 50 mph, which may displace unsecured objects and potentially down trees, given the already saturated ground conditions.
The areas expected to experience these conditions include central, northern, and southern Delaware, as well as central and southern New Jersey. The strong winds could also lead to sporadic power outages as tree limbs may be blown down.
Simultaneously, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM EDT Saturday for Ocean County, New Jersey.
Predictions indicate up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways, particularly along Barnegat Bay near Mantoloking, where southerly winds are expected to prevent high water from draining at high tide.
Today’s weather across these regions will feature scattered showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 82 degrees and wind gusts as high as 45 mph.
The chance of precipitation is 40%, with new rainfall amounts generally less than a tenth of an inch, though higher amounts could occur during thunderstorms.
Tonight, the region can expect continued showers and thunderstorms, primarily before 2 AM, followed by scattered showers. Some storms may be severe and produce heavy rainfall. Temperatures will drop to a low around 73 degrees, with south winds of 10 to 20 mph and gusts up to 35 mph. The likelihood of precipitation increases to 80%, with rainfall amounts between a quarter and a half of an inch possible.
Saturday will see scattered showers ending before 7 AM, with weather clearing to partly sunny skies and eventually full sunshine by day’s end. The high will be near 89 degrees with a northwest wind of 5 to 10 mph, and a 30% chance of precipitation.
