ORANGE COUNTY, NY — District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that Aguibou Karambe, a 22-year-old Manhattan resident, has pled guilty to attempted robbery in the second degree related to a February 2023 incident at an AT&T store in Monroe. Under the terms of the plea agreement, Karambe will face a recommended sentence of five years in prison followed by three years of post-release supervision. His sentencing is scheduled for October 16, 2024.
On February 28, 2023, Karambe, along with three masked accomplices, forcibly entered the Monroe AT&T store. During the robbery, the clerk was assaulted, and electronics were stolen. The group was later apprehended in Mount Vernon, Westchester County, with the stolen goods.
During his court appearance on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Karambe admitted his role in the robbery, confirming the group’s intent to steal while physically present together.
DA Hoovler expressed gratitude towards the Monroe Police Department and other law enforcement agencies, including those from Mount Vernon, New York City, and Westchester County, for their collaborative efforts in arresting the suspects. He highlighted the importance of quick and efficient police work in maintaining community safety and bringing criminals to justice. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Mangold.
