GAITHERSBURG, MD — The Montgomery County Department of Police, Major Crimes Division – Auto Crime Enforcement Section (ACES), has charged 19-year-old Jefferson J. Ventura of College Park, MD, with multiple counts of auto theft and related charges.
The announcement was made following an investigation into a series of vehicle thefts that occurred in April.
Detectives were alerted to the thefts of high-end General Motors and Mopar vehicles from dealerships across Montgomery County, along with several privately owned vehicles. With collaborative efforts from Howard County Police Department, Baltimore County, and Prince George’s County, Ventura was pinpointed as a key suspect.
An arrest warrant was issued on Tuesday for Ventura, formally charging him with the theft of five vehicles valued collectively at $185,064. He faces five counts of motor vehicle theft among other charges.
The warrant was served on Wednesday while Ventura was already detained at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit on similar charges from neighboring jurisdictions, and he also has a detainer for felony larceny from North Carolina.
