WHITE PLAINS, NY—Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced that a Brooklyn woman was sentenced to 30 days in jail for endangering a 5-week-old infant under her care.
The sentencing took place on Monday in the Town of Mamaroneck Justice Court, where Gwendolyn Blake, 40, also received three years of probation.
Blake, who served as a night nurse, pleaded guilty in May to two misdemeanor counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Judge Ronald Meister also imposed a condition on her probation preventing her from working with any vulnerable populations, along with issuing a permanent order of protection.
The incident, which took place on August 30, 2023, involved Blake striking and shaking the colicky premature infant while under surveillance. The Town of Mamaroneck Police arrested Blake shortly after, on September 5, 2023.
The victim’s parents provided a heart-wrenching statement in court, expressing their trauma and distrust following the abuse. The DA had initially recommended a 60-day jail sentence, citing the severity of the violations committed by Blake.
