TRENTON, NJ – A severe weather warning has been issued for New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware today.
The National Weather Service warns of potential flooding due to excessive rainfall from this afternoon until Wednesday morning. Affected areas include northern Delaware, multiple counties in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, including Camden, Monmouth, and Ocean counties. The watch follows a forecast that predicts average rainfall between 1.5 and 2.5 inches, with possible localized amounts exceeding 5 inches.
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AND WARNING ISSUED
Concurrently, a severe thunderstorm watch, numbered 606, is in effect until 11:00 PM EDT today for various New Jersey counties.
A specific severe thunderstorm warning is also active for northeastern Ocean County until 3:00 PM EDT, with risks of 60 mph wind gusts and penny-size hail. The storm, located near Dover Beaches North, may cause significant damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines.
WEATHER CONDITIONS OVER THE NEXT DAYS
Meteorologists link the severe weather to a cold front interacting with tropical moisture from Tropical Storm Debby. The ensuing conditions could bring heavy downpours. Tonight, thunderstorms are likely, some severe, with up to a half-inch of rainfall expected. This pattern is anticipated to continue into Wednesday, with a 70% chance of showers and potential thunderstorms.
