POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – A significant drug enforcement operation has culminated in the arrest of a local drug dealer, Leon E. Scott, 54, following a targeted investigation by the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force. Over several months, agents made multiple controlled purchases of cocaine and other dangerous drugs from Scott in the City of Poughkeepsie.
On August 1, the culmination of this investigation saw Drug Task Force agents, along with the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Unit, apprehending Scott on Winnikee Ave without incident. Subsequently, a search warrant was executed at a residence on Corlies Ave, which Scott was associated with.
Scott faces charges of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, a Class B Felony, with further charges pending. Following his arrest, he was taken to Poughkeepsie City Court and then remanded to Dutchess County Jail without bail.
The operation involved coordination with the City of Poughkeepsie Neighborhood Recovery Unit. The Drug Task Force continues to caution the public about the dangers of cocaine and similar substances, which are significant contributors to overdose deaths in the region.
