NEWARK, NJ – Eric Nicholas Gapco, a 26-year-old New Jersey man, was arrested following a series of disruptive behaviors on an American Airlines flight from Seattle to Dallas, which necessitated an emergency landing in Salt Lake City.
The incident occurred after Gapco, reportedly under the influence of 10 cannabis edibles, attempted multiple times to open the aircraft’s door and made inappropriate advances towards a flight attendant.
Gapco’s erratic behavior escalated to vaping on the plane and vocal outbursts, including political statements, as he was being escorted off the aircraft upon landing. Due to his actions, the flight crew was forced to divert the plane to ensure the safety of all passengers onboard.
Authorities have charged Gapco with interference with a flight crew and attempted damage to an aircraft. The specifics of the THC content in the edibles consumed by Gapco were not disclosed.
This event caused significant disruptions, not only altering the flight path but also raising concerns about in-flight security and passenger conduct.
He shouted “Trump 2024, or Biden…” as he was escorted off the plane with his hands zip-tied together.
Further updates on the legal proceedings against Gapco will provide insights into the ramifications of his actions during the flight.
