WASHINGTON, D.C. — A tragic hit and run in Southeast Washington has left a man dead, prompting an intensive investigation by local authorities. On July 22, at approximately 6:27 p.m., Metropolitan Police Department officers found 55-year-old Donnell Howard of Northeast D.C. injured in the roadway at the 700 block of Chesapeake Street, Southeast. DC Fire and EMS promptly transported him to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries on July 25.
The initial findings from detectives suggest that Howard was hit by a dark-colored minivan, possibly a Honda Odyssey, which then fled the scene. An autopsy by the DC’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner concluded that Howard suffered internal blunt trauma consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
