HACKENSACK, NJ—Early Friday morning, a significant traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Polifly Road and Route 80, involving a vehicle rollover and a downed electric pole with live wires. Hackensack Fire Department units, including Engine 2, Rescue 1, and Deputy 3, responded to the scene around 7 AM.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a two-car collision with one vehicle overturned. The driver of the overturned vehicle had already self-extricated before the fire department’s arrival. Firefighters provided first aid and worked alongside the Hackensack Police Department (HPD) to secure the area.
One individual was transported to Hackensack Medical Center as a precautionary measure. PSE&G was called to the scene to address the live electrical wires and ensure the safety of the area. Engine 2 and HPD are expected to remain on site until the power is secured and the overturned vehicle is safely removed.
Authorities are advising the public to avoid the area to facilitate the ongoing cleanup and safety operations. This is expected to be an extended operation. Community safety personnel are actively managing the situation to minimize disruption and ensure public safety.
