CARROLL COUNTY, MD—A significant fire at Clearfield Bible Church in Westminster has prompted a thorough investigation by local and federal agencies. The incident, which occurred at 1303 Old Westminster Pike, drew a large response from fire departments across several counties.
The blaze, discovered shortly after 3:00 PM, quickly escalated to a two-alarm fire, prompting responses from Reese Volunteer Fire Company, Carroll County Department of Fire and EMS, and additional units from Baltimore, Howard, and York counties. A church employee was inside at the onset but managed to escape unharmed.
Efforts to extinguish the fire saw nearly 75 firefighters battling for two hours to bring the situation under control. The fire led to the collapse of the church’s roof and several walls. One firefighter was transported to a local hospital for evaluation following the incident.
Investigative teams from the Office of the State Fire Marshal, ATF, and other agencies are on the scene, aided by heavy machinery to clear debris and aerial surveillance to capture extensive video and photo evidence. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with authorities committed to determining its origin as they work into the evening.
