TRENTON, NJ – After weeks of false alarms, a major storm is passing through New Jersey in the coming moments.
The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center has issued Severe Thunderstorm Watch 590 effective until 9:00 PM EDT today for several counties in New Jersey.
The counties affected include Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Salem, and Somerset. Residents in these areas should be alert for potential severe weather conditions.
Tonight, there is a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 11 PM. Some storms could be severe, with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 73°F. Winds from the west at 5 to 10 mph will shift southwest after midnight. Rainfall amounts could range from a tenth to a quarter of an inch, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
The forecast for Saturday includes a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms, intensifying after 5 PM. The day might start with patchy fog before clearing up to mostly sunny skies and a high near 91°F, with heat index values reaching up to 101°F. Similar weather patterns are expected to continue into the weekend, with varying chances of precipitation and potential thunderstorms each day through Sunday night.
