SILVER SPRING, MD — The Montgomery County Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying six individuals involved in the assault of four homeless people in Veterans Plaza.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, July 16, 2024, around 4:43 a.m. on the 800 block of Ellsworth Drive.
Surveillance footage released by the police shows a dark-colored Honda Civic stopping near the intersection of Ellsworth Drive and Fenton Street.
Six suspects, five Black males and one Black female, then exited the vehicle and assaulted the victims who were sleeping at various locations around Veterans Plaza.
Details of the assault include a female victim who was punched in the face while sleeping at a table. Her attempt to call the police was thwarted when one of the suspects snatched and destroyed her phone. Two male victims sleeping on a bench and another male who was chased down Ellsworth Drive toward Georgia Avenue were also targeted.
Two of the victims were transported to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for their injuries. The descriptions of the suspects are as follows:
- Suspect One: Black male, wearing a black ski mask, grey shirt, jeans, and white and grey sneakers.
- Suspect Two: Black male with short locs, grey shirt with white writing, black pants, and black shoes.
- Suspect Three: Black male, black hat, white t-shirt, black pants, light-colored shoes, and a black crossbody bag.
- Suspect Four: Black male, black tank top, black pants, and black and yellow sneakers.
- Suspect Five: Black male, dressed in all black.
- Suspect Six: Black female, black short-sleeve t-shirt, black pants, and white shoes.
The Montgomery County Police Department’s 3rd District Crisis Intervention Officer is leading the investigation. Anyone with information about the suspects or the incident is urged to contact the Montgomery County Police Department.
