TRENTON, NJ – The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, NJ has issued a heat advisory for parts of northern Delaware, central, northern, and southern New Jersey, as well as southeast Pennsylvania. The advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. Thursday to 8 p.m. Friday.
Heat index values are expected to reach up to 102 degrees during this period. The affected areas include New Castle, Somerset, Middlesex, Western Monmouth, Mercer, Gloucester, Camden, Northwestern Burlington, Ocean, Southeastern Burlington, Delaware, Philadelphia, Western Chester, Eastern Chester, Western Montgomery, Eastern Montgomery, and Lower Bucks counties.
Hot temperatures and high humidity may lead to heat-related illnesses. Residents are urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, avoid direct sunlight, and check on relatives and neighbors.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments for those working outdoors. If anyone is overcome by heat, they should be moved to a cool and shaded location immediately. Heat stroke is a medical emergency, and 911 should be called without delay.
